
Age also plays a role
For slow-eliminators under age 59, drinking at least 4 cups of coffee doubled the risk of heart attack compared to those who drank just 1 cup. For those under 50, the risk quadruples! For people under the age of 59 who quit smoking quickly, drinking 1 cup a day was associated with a 52% lower risk of heart attack, and 2 to 3 cups was associated with a 43% lower risk.
